Do you accept compliments with a "Thank you?" Or do you say, (if its on your appearance), "Oh, I look a mess today. I didn't have time to get fixed up." Or, "This was something I threw on to cover up that I'm fat."
When we don't accept a compliment in the spirit in which it is given, we are calling the complimenter a liar, we are devaluing their opinion. God didn't make junk, we may think we are being humble, but we are letting the complimenting person know we don't value what they say, and they aren't a good judge. So, make them feel good, say "Thank you." You can add, "That is so kind of you to notice."
